The apprentice ceremony:
Leader: Today we gather together to name a new apprentice. (Kits name) Come forward. From this day forward, until he/she has earned his/her warrior name, this apprentice will be known as (insert apprentice's name here). (insert mentors name here), you are ready to take on an apprentice. You will be mentor to (insert apprentice's name here). (insert mentor's name here), you have shown yourself to be a warrior of (insert virtue #1 here) and (insert virtue #2 here). I expect you to pass on everything (insert mentor's former mentor name here) has taught you.
The new mentor and apprentice touch noses, and they both go to the side of the clearing.
The warrior ceremony:
Leader: I, (insert leader's name here), leader of ( insert Clan here), call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (he/she) has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I comment (him/her) to you as a warrior in (his/her) turn. (insert warrior-to-be's name here), do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?
Warrior: I do.
Leader: Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. (insert-warrior-to-be's name here), from this moment you will be known as (insert apprentices new warrior name here). StarClan honors your (insert skill #1 here) and your (insert skill #2 here), and we welcome you as a full warrior of (insert Clan here).
The leader rests his/her muzzle on the top of the new warrior's head and the new warrior licks his/her new shoulder in respect. The rest of the Clan chant the new warrior's new name.
The deputy ceremony:
Leader: I say these words before the body of (insert the dead deputy's name here), so that his/her spirit can hear an approve of my choice.
There is a pause.
Leader: (insert new deputy's name here) will be the new deputy of (insert Clan here).
All the cats go to congratulate the new deputy.
The leader's first deputy:
Leader: I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors can hear and approve of my choice.
There is a pause.
Leader: (insert new deputy's name here) will be the new deputy of (insert Clan here).
All the cats go to congratulate the new deputy.
The medicine cat apprentice ceremony:
Medicine cat: Cats of (insert Clan here), I have an announcement to make. It is time I took on an apprentice. Your next medicine cat will be (insert apprentice's name here).
Leader: (insert medicine cat's new apprentice's name here). Do you accept the post of apprentice to (medicine cat's name)?
Medicine cat's new apprentice: Yes, I do (insert Clan leader's name here).
Leader: Then at the half moon you must travel to Moostone, to be accepted by StarClan before the other medicine cats. The good wishes of all (insert Clan here) will go with you.
The medicine cat's new apprentice and the medicine cat come together and touch noses.
Medicine Cat:
Medicine cat: I, (insert medicine cat's name here), medicine cat of (insert Clan here), call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (he/she) has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help (he/she) will serve (his/her) Clan for many moons. (insert medicine-cat-to-be's name here), do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?
Medicine-cat apprentice: I do.
Medicine cat: Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. (insert medicine-cat-to-be's name here), from this moment you will be known as (insert medicine-cat-to-be's new name here). StarClan honors your (insert virtue #1 here ) and your (insert virtue #2 here), and we welcome you as a full medicine cat.
The elder ceremony:
Leader: (insert new elder's name here) is it your wish to give up the life of a warrior and retire to the elders?
New elder: It is (insert clan leader name here)
Leader: Then may starclan grant you many moons of rest! (insert clan name here) thanks you for your seasons of hard service.
The Name changing Ceremony:
These words are used in unusual circumstances, like when a cat receives a disfiguring injury, to change their name.
Leader: Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what he/she is. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment she/he will be known as (insert cats new name here).
Dying Apprentice Ceremony:
When an apprentice passes away, the leader will usually say a prayer to StarClan to let him or her pass safely. They will usually speak over the dead apprentices body.
Leader: I ask my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. He/she has learned the warrior code and has given up his/her life in the service of his/her Clan. Let StarClan receive him/her as a warrior. He/she will be known as [WARRIOR NAME].
Death Ceremony:
The cat's closest friend will share tongues with their passed on friend for the last time. They will say a few words honoring the warrior, like a funeral. They will then stand vigil with the dead warrior until sunrise to ensure that they will pass on safely. Then they bury the cat in the desired area. |
